A Doctor Who review podcast featuring Kyle (The Nerdist, Doctor Who: The Writer's Room) and Steven (Radio Free Skaro, Lazy Doctor Who) and their immediate reactions to randomly selected Doctor Who stories.
The Memory Cheats #18

A legendary story because it was never completed, Shada would have not only closed out Season 17, but would have also drawn to a conclusion an era that featured Graham Williams as producer and Douglas Adams as script editor. But it's canon, according to the BBC, so we're reviewing it here, based mostly on the 1992 VHS release. Enjoy!

  • One of the many things that I like about 'The Memory Cheats' is that you both (Josh and Steven) generally know more about the programme than I do. *LOL* ;) Seriously, you are both articulate about your knowledge and humble about it too. Cheers! I also like that you both, as a rule, cover the common knowledge, in this podcast, as well as many of the more interesting facts and trivia. In this episode, though, I thought that you might have touched upon 'The Five Doctors', however. For me, I saw 'The Five Doctors' (1983) before the release of the 'Shada' VHS (1992, as you stated). I knew of the unfinished story (thank you for that Tom Baker impression at the start of the podcast, by the way--*LOL*) and yearned to see some of what was filmed. So of course, for me (and many others), a highlight of 'The Five Doctors' (since Tom Baker did not participate in any new recording for that special) was seeing those 'Shada' clips inserted into it; that was a major rush! I purchased the 'Shada' VHS those nine years later and I certainly agree with your assessment of the episode (as you presented it on the podcast). I must add that I have been listening to 'Radio Free Skaro' and I am enjoying that, Steven; I just finished listening to episode ten. With that said, Josh, I attempted to stick with "Mostly Harmless", but had to finally unsubscribe and delete it. Sorry. Perhaps, though, you can have Warren join the two of you, as a guest, for an upcoming "Memory Cheats". Anyway, again, cheers! And, for the record, 'you know' does not bother me, but I cannot stand to watch BLAKE'S 7 either! *LOL*

  • Please don't take this the wrong way. I like listening to you guys. However Josh, please stop saying "you know" in between every sentence. It's very annoying. I had to turn 'The Invasion' one off half way through. Otherwise keep up the good work.
